Purpose of the BSF Midterm Conference
This conference aims to provide a sociological examination of the concept of the intelligent society within the historical, cultural, political, and economic realities of the Balkans. While global discussions of intelligent societies frequently emphasize technological innovation, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation, the Balkan context requires a deeper analytical perspective that takes into account post-socialist transformations, transitional democracies, social inequalities, migration and diaspora, cultural identities, and processes of European integration. The conference seeks to explore how an intelligent society can be constructed in the Balkans, balancing technological advancement with social cohesion, democratic citizenship, justice, and sustainable development.

Suggested Themes:
1. Social Transformations in the Balkans
Post-socialism and delayed modernization
Social structures, inequalities, and mobility
Migration, diaspora, and transnationalism
2. Democracy, State, and Intelligent Governance

3. Technology, Knowledge, and Development
