Abstract

The current study presents the violence on Romanian television, with a double approach: 1. the violence content of the cartoons broadcasted by two international TV stations dedicated to the children that are on the cable in Romania too  Cartoon Network and JETIX and 2. the perspective opened by the text-reader model in reception theories. Thus, the second point of interest is finding out how Romanian youngsters nowadays do perceive the cartoonsviolent content, and also finding out which might be, in their view, the consequences of this viewing. Within the perspective of these two focuses and research directions, we will analyze, on one hand, the actual violence in cartoons and, on the other hand, how children/teens perceive those specific acts of violence broadcasted so that, in the end, to get to see whether its a matter of two faces of the same reality or two different realities altogether, the violence and the perception of it.
