Abstract

Based on the data from the third round of the European Social Survey the paper brings some considerations regarding the declared frequency of 15 emotional experiences  in case of Romania and four other European regions. Statistical analysis suggested that in the case of the four European regions negative emotional experiences can  be  separated  in  mood  (e.g.  depression,  loneliness,  lethargy)  declared  more frequently by older persons, respectively in exhaustion (e.g. restless, fatigue) which is experienced more frequently by the younger Europeans. Regarding positive emotions, exploratory analysis did not indicate any separation, however there seems to be a tendency of break-up between active and passive positive emotions. The case of Romania illustrates  a higher covariation in the case of negative emotions as well, as far as negative  mood could not been separated from exhaustion. At a first sight this may indicate an intra-cultural variation of the emotional experience, however becomes interpretable  also as a specific case of the East-Central European situation, where the sociodemographic  profile (especially age) of mood- and exhaustion-endorsers is more similar compared to the other regions.
