Abstract

he paper examines the child physical maltreatment issue from a double perspective: theoretical and empirical. In the first part, are presented the main criteria of physical abuse definitions, its forms of manifestation, the characteristics that distinguish between child abuse and corporal punishment, the etiological models offered by the international literature. The second part represents a short review of the recent legislative developments on which the child protection system from our country is based on. The last part offer a description of the child abuse scope and the socio-demographic profile of the victims of these acts of violence, on the bases of the National Authority of Child Rights Protection statistics and of the results of a survey carried out in 2008.
