Abstract

This study attempts to draw attention to the value of the modern technique of content analysis, which is situated in an unique position as a methodology mainly focused on message analysis in its written form. We relied on the most advanced epistemological position to date, which claims that the content of a text emerges in the process of text analysis made by the researcher in connection with a particular context, and not as a feature inherent in the text itself. We applied the advanced analysis technique called ‘statistical content analysis’, which is the instrument for the management of information in large databases, to find out the patterns or hidden relationships in the unstructured texts collected from newspapers. The process of finding out the meaning transformed the texts into structured textual data, which enabled us to use Multivariate Analysis Techniques such as Hierarchical Cluster Analysis, Multidimensional Scaling and Correspondence Analysis. Relying on this empirical base, we proceeded to make a qualitative analysis, thus achieving the integration of quantitative and qualitative paradigms in sociological research.
